The eastbound lanes of Interstate 24 reopened about six hours after a fiery tractor-trailer crash near Sam Ridley Parkway.
The wreck happened at about 4:20 a.m. on Saturday. The Tennessee Highway Patrol told Channel 4 News that the semi hit the median and burst into flames.
The tractor trailer struck the median so hard that debris flew into oncoming traffic. Concrete pieces covered three lanes, according to the THP.
THP officials said the semi driver was taken to Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
Emergency crews had to clean up a large diesel fuel spill before they could reopen all of the lanes.
